Sony VAIO VPCS139LE B Ultraportable Laptops

Sony VAIO VPCS139LE/B Ultraportable Laptops
Sony’s VAIO Z-Series contains some of the best ultraportable laptops available to buy, but they’re extremely expensive.

Those not looking to bankrupt themselves on a Sony ultraportable would do well to check out the well-rounded VAIO VPCS139LE/B (£779 inc. VAT), which offers great portability, power and usability.

Portability is decent and, although the 303-minute battery life can’t compete with the Asus U35JC-RX080V or Apple MacBook 13-inch, it offers more than enough power for medium-length journeys.

Having said that, the 2kg chassis is a little on the heavy side, but it won’t realistically cause you many issues.

Build quality is excellent and the magnesium-alloy chassis is rock solid, providing excellent protection for the laptop’s internal components. This also provides a hard base for the keyboard which, along with the Apple MacBook, is one of the best.

The isolation style board – whereby each key sticks up through a hole in the chassis – works well, with the keys providing a snappy action and comfortable travel.

Strong lid

The screen lid is also strong, protecting the display from bumps and bashes on the road.

Colour reproduction is good, as is detail, courtesy of the 1366 x 768-pixel resolution, but we expected a brighter panel from Sony. There’s also a shiny Super-TFT screen coating in place, unlike the Toshiba, which tends to create irritating reflections in bright light.

The Intel Core i3 processor – the same as in the Asus – provides more than enough performance for everyday work, and those looking to run multiple applications concurrently will be well catered for here – although for ultimate power the Intel Core i5-powered Toshiba here is hard to beat.

The integrated Intel chip provides more than enough graphical performance for viewing and even editing your photos. Unlike all but the Toshiba, there’s also an optical drive for reading and burning DVDs and CDs. This will no doubt prove a key selling point for those wanting to back up their data to disc or watch DVDs.

The 500GB hard drive is generous, and will take some time to fill, unless you have vast amounts of data to carry around with you.

The Sony also boasts a wealth of features. There’s the VAIO and Assist hotkeys while an ExpressCard slot and FireWire port – the latter being a unique feature – are also included.

We’re big fans of the Sony VAIO VPCS139LE/B. It costs quite a bit less than the Toshiba Portege R700-15x, offers a broadly similar experience when it comes to power and portability, yet at the same time offers better usability. A great machine and one that is easy to recommend.

Laptops MSI CR650 scores an AMD E 350 Zacate APU

Laptops MSI CR650 scores an AMD E-350 Zacate APU
MSI : There’s no question that AMD’s new Fusion Zacate platform is pretty killer when it comes to ultraportables or notbooks (as we like to call ‘em), but there’s no reason the affordable, solid-performing APU couldn’t power a budget 15.6-inch system, right? Well, that’s certainly the way a few laptop manufacturers see it. Following in the footsteps of Toshiba’s Satellite C655D, MSI’s decided to cram its 15.6-inch CR650 with AMD’s latest Fusion APU. Equipped with a Zacate E-350 CPU with Radeon HD 6310 graphics on the same die (the same chip in the HP dm1 we just reviewed), there’s no doubt the rig can handle full HD and light games without a hiccup. We’re not exactly drooling over the design, but it does have the basics, including a DVD drive, six-cell battery, HD webcam, and speakers that claim superior SRS sound. It will also be configurable with 250, 320, or 500GB hard drive and DDR3 RAM.There’s no word on the price just yet, but our guess it should ring up at under $600 when it finally hits shelves.

Dell Inspiron 6400 15 4 inch Laptop Review

new Dell Inspiron 6400
Dells one of the well-known laptop maker has announced the launch of its new laptop namely, Dell Inspiron 6400. The Inspiron 6400 makes a good home or small-business system if it stays put most of the time, as its too heavy for regular travel. With the new Inspiron 6400, all of the crucial elements are accounted for: You get a comfortable keyboard and touchpad, a decent display, and a very solid collection of basic multimedia features and connections. The base unit starts at approximately S$1,799, but Dell offers a vast array of configuration options for everyone from the most basic Web and email user to digital junkies who require midrange gaming and graphics capabilities. That said, if youre looking for a similar set of features but a larger display, check out the Inspiron 9400; if youre looking for something more portable, the Inspiron 640m weighs less and offers a similar experience, just with a nominally smaller display. HP also makes two systems, the Pavilion dv5100 and the Compaq Presario V5100, which offer comparable feature sets and weigh a little less.
Dell Inspiron 6400
Design

The Inspiron 6400s which powered by features 15.4-inch widescreen display can be configured with one of two native resolutions, XGA or the finer SXGA+, and either a glossy TrueLife or standard, nonglossy finish. We prefer the finer resolution, which affords more screen real estate, but if you have bad eyesight, the lower resolution will make text and graphics appear larger, though less detailed. The glossy finish makes the display look brighter but also gives off a distracting glare in sunny or well-lit environments. Our glossy, SXGA+ test unit delivered a solid score of 160cd/m² on our Minolta luminance meter, which tests a displays maximum brightness. The Inspiron 6400s keyboard is adequate, and the touch pad and two mouse buttons are nice and big, though they dont afford a great amount of tactile feedback.
best Dell Inspiron 6400
Features

The Inspiron 6400 provides a standard array of ports and connections that should fulfill the needs of most basic users. The offering is virtually identical to what youll find on the Pavilion dv4000, except that the Inspiron 6400 lacks a Type II PC Card slot (inconsequential, unless you already have a bunch of PC Cards) and has a media card reader that supports one additional format (SmartMedia). One of the very best things about the Inspiron 6400 is the set of seven handy multimedia buttons that sit smack in the middle of its front edge, which makes it easy to control music and movies, even when the lid is shut no other vendor offers.

APPLE MACBOOK LATE 2008 MODEL REVIEW

Mac stuns a new package – 1500$ Mac in the stores

apple macbook late 2008 modelWhether youre a college student or a graphic artist Apple just wrapped the most attractive item to your holiday wish list: the new Mac Book. Armed with Intel Core 2 Duo processors, NVidia 9400M graphics accelerator, an elective 128GB solid state drive (SSD), and a fashionable yet hard design.

Design
The new-fangled "uni-body" edifice of the Mac Book for late 2008 provides this MacBook one of the most remarkably built 13-inch laptops weve witnessed in recent memory. When you wrap this laptop up it experiences like youre holding a rock-hard piece of metal. In a manner of talking, you are. The uni-body framework is milled from a rock-solid block of aluminum, making the Mac Book one of the most hard-wearing 13-inch laptops you can procure for less than $2,000.

Performance
The MacBook has sensible presentation based on the power maestro of, 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P7350 processor. The P7350 isnt nearly all inspiring Core 2 Duo processor in the Intel array, but it certainly executes much better than the processors utilized in the Apple Mac Book Air. The X-Bench benchmarks designate that the fresh MacBook is a concrete update in Apples existing lineup. As youll witness during the benchmark charts, the MacBook has a rock-solid presentation boost over previous cohort Mac Books. The set up into Leopard is pretty fast, and its apparent that Apple didnt have to forfeit processor velocity in order to transport this thin uni-body notebook to consumers. The NVidia Geforce 9400M graphics accelerator should supply sufficient act for most games and wont have any difficulty with high-definition video harvest to an external monitor. That alleged, this isnt a gaming laptop and wont shatter any records with existing 3D games.

Overall
On the whole, if you necessitate a Mac notebook for less than $1,500 then the new-fangled MacBook provides a good alternative However, if youre just seeking for a high-presentation, portable laptop with rugged construct superiority I propose you deem an HP Elite Book 2530p ... which retails for just a little further than the Mac Book but is a far advanced laptop.

Pros
+ Efficient design
+ Breezy touchpad
+ Durable build superiority
+ So calm it appears like it has fan less cooling
+ Its a Mac

Cons
- No Fire wire ports
- No customary video out ports

LENOVO THINKPAD W700 DS

The Lenovo ThinkPad W700 is designed with creative people like graphic artists and photographers in mind.

System Configuration
Primary Display: 17 inch 1920 x 1200 screen
Secondary Display: 10.6 inch 768 x 1200 slide out screen (the DS stands for ‘dual screen’)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Extreme 2.53 ghz
Memory: 4 GB RAM

The ThinkPad W700 Dual Screen is not a small laptop. The machine weighs around 13 pounds. You can’t probably spend a lot of time with it on your lap or away from the desk. It has all the imprints of a ThinkPad machines – it’s black, square and solid looking. The full sized keyboard comes with a full numeric keypad. There is a trackpad with 5 buttons and a trackstick in the center of the keyboard. A very interesting feature is the Wacom tablet that is built into the front right hand area of the machine. There is also a digital pen to use it.

Main Screen
The 17 inch main screen is simply fantastic. Colors are great, brightness is good. The 10.6 inch secondary screen is not as great as the primary screen. But it is still a very useful addition. You can run email or other programs on it while working with main documents on the main screen. The smaller screen is in the portrait format while the larger one is in the landscape format. Keyboard/Touchpad

Other Features
The W700 Dual Screen offers plenty of options when it comes to connectivity. There are 5 USB ports. Other options include VGA, 1394 FireWire, CF card reader, Express 64, dual-link DVI, DisplayPort, 7-in-1 card reader, ethernet and wireless. There is also a fingerprint reader for those concerned with security.

Performance
Performance is amazing. You can run a variety of programs all at once and the machine won’t fail you even once. The only problem with performance is that you can’t run this machine on battery for long.

Conclusion
This is a powerful machine with many innovative features. It isn’t cheap. It isn’t very portable either. But if you are looking for a mobile workstation with enough power this is the laptop to buy.

Therefore, you can catch it to school, work, or university without being documented as gaming freak at once.

Performance
The already revealed MSI Megabook GX 600 was planted with up-to-date expertise by Intel and NVIDIA. The central processing unit was a Core 2 Duo T9300 with 2.5 GHz clock-rate and 6 MB L2-Cache. This CPU utilizes the novel Penryn core and was shaped in the 45 nm technology. The parts of this arrangement are proscribed by an 800 MHz front-side bus. The chip set is a PM965 by Intel. So, this Megabook GX 600 powered with Penryn CPU is still a Santa Rosa age bracket laptop. An entirety of 3 GB DDR2-667 RAM is accessible. This advances the presentation, particularly, if you sprint current computer games.

If you fancy silent laptops, you wont like this Megabook GX600 much. Independent of the application load, the fan was always evidently audible. Compared to the GX 700 the GX600 is exceptionally good on the subject of temperature amplify. The calculated temperatures are visibly lower. The 2 red stereo speakers are placed left and right above the keyboard. An included Realtek sound chip controls audio output and input. The GX600 is planted with a Lithium Ions battery with a capability of 4800 mAh (about 52 WH). Regrettably, its runtime is not long.

Overall
All like the bigger MSI Megabook GX 700, which is planted with T7500 CPU, also the Megabook GX 600, which is planted with up-to-date hardware, e.g., a T9300 Penryn CPU, is certainly a high-quality 15.4 laptop with some insignificant flaws.

Pros
+ Stylish design
+ HDMI and eSATA port
+ Integral web cam
+ Lusterless display
+ Turbo Mode for escalating the presentation of the CPU

Cons

- Responsive surfaces
- Keyboard partially clatters
- Reasonable lighting of the display
- Low battery sprint time

GATEWAY M 152XL REVIEW THE COMPRESSED MULTIMEDIA MOTIVATING FORCE

The Gateway M-152XL is a compressed multimedia motivating force aimed unswervingly at the Toshiba A305, HP Pavillion dv6700, or Dell M1530. Each of these laptops proffers the same indispensable features. So how healthy does the Gateway pile up to the rest? Examine on to find out.

Design
The Gateway M-152XL has an extremely trendy design with lustrous metallic blue paint contrasting the brushed aluminum spruce around the casing of the laptop as well as the keyboard. The optical drive, subsequent the smooth and modish theme is niche loading, just like the Dell M1530 or Apple laptop line. Build quality is higher than average with a hard-wearing framework that feels pretty rock-hard in your hand. The plastic is sturdy, flexing little under constant worry and producing no squeaks when tossed roughly.

Performance
The on the whole system recital of the Gateway M-152XL laptop is outstanding, with its Intel Penryn T8300 processor and ATI Mobility HD2600 graphics accelerator card. This amalgamation provides you abundance of performance to play most up to date games even on standard settings, and more than adequate power for day to day tasks. The 7200rpm Seagate hard disk memory drive helped load media applications like the Windows Media Center devoid of holdup, and gave the laptop a very snappy feel when just tooling roughly. In comparison to the other laptops in this price sector, the Gateway M-152XL clearly leads the crowd in on the whole system recital from what we have witnessed in our testing.

Display eminence is run of the mill, with an awfully constricted viewing perspective which can make enjoying a movie or game thorny until you hit upon a sweet spot. The keyboard on the Gateway M-152XL laptop was very nice, with a very rock-hard sense when typing. Thermal presentation of this laptop was brilliant, in commission at surreptitiousness decibel levels during for the most part of activities, and placidly ramping up in momentum under benchmarks. For possessing a customary, non-extended battery power pack, the Gateway M-152XL carries in good off the grid string time of 2 hours and 35 minutes while sprinting on the Windows Vista "Balanced" profile.

Conclusion
The Gateway M-152XL serves a great treaty of presentation and very high-quality build standards for a very striking price. While the customary retail price of this laptop is $1,299, at the time of this writing Gateway is at present are selling it on their website with an additional $250 discount, straining the concluding price down to $1,050. The solitary big grievance I had with our review variant was the paint imperfection.

SONY HAS ONLY ONE CLOCK SPEED OPTION FOR US BOUND P SERIES

Were not sure what is the problem with Sony or any other Japanese maker releasing the cool upgrade options for the US. But apparently Sony does not have any plans to send us the 1.8GHz model we had heard about.

So far the only option we have for the US is the 1.3GHz model. But our Japanese neighbors get the $174 1.86GHz Atom Z540 option. A little pricey but a good option nonetheless seeing that were stuck with Windows Vista Home Premium for now. Windows 7 couldnt come soon enough.

Anyways as we have said two times before, youre welcome to count the pennies in your piggy bank and head over to SonyStyle.com and pre-order your model. You will have to place down a minimum of $899 for one of these though.

HP PAVILION DV5Z REVIEW

Dv5z makes a class-walk to the market – Produced by HP

The latest 15-inch laptop from HP arrives just in time to construct a huge impact for back-to-school shoppers in the current 2008. The HP Pavilion dv5z captures the most recent AMD dual-core processors, spiteful edge graphics that massacre the antagonism, and a price thats so spirited youll have a stiff time coming up with reasons not to buy this laptop.

Design
The dv5z has a new-fangled and enhanced design, replacing the abiding and much-desired dv6000 series framework design. The flaunt cover has the durable plastic Imprint finish, which clutches up quite well to minor scratch without scratching. The body of the laptop is downy with smoothed edges, making it tremendously comfortable in your hand while hauling it around. The display also sports a latch less design, making it effortless to open the laptop with one hand. Although the cover lacks any latch to stay it held lock up, the hinges feel comparatively strong, holding the closure secure. Pressing steadfastly onto the flipside of the screen cover will create some ripples on the screen ... but you must relate momentous pressure to cause this.

Performance
HP proffers the new-fangled Pavilion dv5z with a variety of AMD processors, together with the grown-up generation 1.9 GHz Athlon X2QL-60 dual-core processor. However, the giant news this year is the accessibility of AMDs innovative "Puma" platform with enhanced processors and graphics. The innovative AMD Turion X2 Ultra ZM-80 2.1GHz dual-core processor is an understandable fruition of AMD processor technology, but the genuine news is the incorporated graphics.

It isnt very habitual that we get energized about an incorporated graphics processor (IGP). Every IGP on the marketplace is glaringly substandard to a devoted graphics card and all IGP on the market struggles to grip high designation video and 3D video games. Not so with the ATI Radeon HD 3200. For the 1st time ever consumers have a squat-cost IGP that presents faultless 1080p video playback and can even play lots of 3D video games at levelheaded frame rates!

First, this budget laptop comes with an eSATA/USB port which permits you to connect either a USB tool or an eSATA gadget. The 2nd important feature to deem on the dv5z is that HP still includes a devoted docking station connector on their notebooks for those of us who utilize our notebooks as desktop replacements. The 15.4-inch diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP Bright View Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050) is quite purely one of the finest 15-inch displays Ive witnessed on any laptop.

Conclusion
It’s extremely hard not to advocate this laptop to anyone and everyone requiring a laptop for less than $700.

Pros
+ Good combination of hardware’s.
+ High end display clarity

Cons
- A bit plastic built.
- Battery life is pretty normal

GATEWAY NV5214U REVIEW

Gateway NV Series notebooks are known for their good looks and decent performance. NV5214u is no different. It has designer looks, consumes less power and delivers excellent performance. The NV5214u is available with both AMD and Intel processors.

System specifications of the laptop for review
Operating system: Windows Vista Home Premium (SP1, 64-bit)
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.1GHz QL-64 (1MB Cache, 667MHz FSB)
Display: 15.6" HD WXGA Ultrabright LED-backlit Display (1366 x 768 resolution, 16:9)
RAM: 4GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM
Hard Disk Drive: 320GB 5400rpm Toshiba Hard Drive
Weight: 5lbs 11.6oz with 6-cell battery

Build and Design
With clean lines, subtle curves and well thought out color schemes, Gateway NV5214u looks classy. Build quality is good, but the screen lid could have been stronger. Users who would like to upgrade their notebooks will be happy with the design of NV5214u as it has easy access panels to the internal components.

Screen and Speakers
The 15.6" LED backlit display has 16:9 aspect ratio. The display is of decent quality, but vertical viewing angles aren’t very good. The display is bright enough to become visible in bright office settings.
Audio quality is average. There is no built-in subwoofer. Peak volume levels will easily fill a small room with music. Headphones are still a must for private listening.

Keyboard and Touchpad
There is a full-size keyboard with number pad. The keyboard is very comfortable to type on. Keys can be activated with very little pressure. The touchpad is big. It shows good sensitivity with very little lag.

Ports and Features
Port selection is OK. There are four USB ports, HDMI, VGA, LAN, modem, and audio jacks, but no eSATA. There is an SDHC-card reader for digital camera users.

Performance
The AMD Athlon 64 X2 QL-64 processor and the ATI HD3200 integrated graphics deliver excellent performance. While the integrated ATI graphics can’t handle the most recent games, it will easily play less demanding games. It can also decode 720p and 1080p video content with minimal efforts. Another very useful feature is the HDMI output, which would allow you to display HD content with digital audio in your TV or home theater system.

Heat and Noise
Heat and noise levels are well within control.

Battery
At 3.5 hours, battery life is good for a notebook of this size.

In short
This is a capable multimedia notebook with designer looks and good build quality. The AMD QL-64 processor and ATI HD3200 integrated graphics are capable of handling almost every task. A must buy for $500.
